In Switzerland, as in Germany, there is no legal obligation to use cash registers. The only requirement in Switzerland is that proper bookkeeping must be done. In Austria, the cash register and receipt sharing obligation for cash receipts has been in effect since 2016. Businesses are obliged to use a cash register if their annual turnover exceeds € 15,000 and their cash turnover exceeds € 7,500.
